A modern rabbi came once to the satmar rebbe and asked him why the more frum world are so separate from women and that by his community they can even shake womens hands and it doesnt even make a big difference to them and by chasidim etc even the sound of their shoes might make them wanna do an aveira (talmud)

so the rebbe replied, "your community has fallen so far that a shake of hands doesnt make a big difference"

point is, if one doesnt seem why TV or MOVIES is bad perhaps the above applies...

M'vuttal zman, m'vuttal Torah, exposure to pritzut.

Rabbi Avigidor Miller ztvkl said that its better to give your child pork than to allow them to watch T.V. because you expose them to goyisha culture that way. Rav Miller didn't mean let your kids eat trief rather than watch TV, persay, he was just illustrating how damaging the influence of non-Jewish/secular culture is.

To add, internet is even worse in regards to potential of pritzut and theres a bunch of Jewish heritcal wingnuts who infest social media sites like Facebook that you leave yourself open to, in much worse ways than TV.

Why should a smoker stop smoking? To heal whatever can be healed and not cause more damage. Teshuvah does heal our neshamos. But first its necessary to stem the flow of damage.

"I've eaten treif my whole life, why should I keep kosher now?"

Even if you don't forget it, you can "bury" it under a mountain of Teshuva and Maasim Tovim, which to the Neshama, is like the breath of life. If you do Teshuva, your memories may not go away, but your Neshama is clean. They are two different things.

But none of this matters. They say you can't totally cure alcoholism either, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't stop drinking.
