L'Chvod Rabbi Shapiro, Shlita:

Do words have a spiritual power,

in that we have to be careful what we say and daven for, and how we say it?

For example, should a person daven that he should do Tishuva in Olam HaZeh for his sins,

vs. davening that he should Atone in Olam HaZeh for his sins,

because atonement might C"V bring Yissurim?

Thank you.

In one of the tefillos for shema al hamita, we ask for atonement not through suffering. So that loshon would work. I would think our words do have such power, though Hashem isn't chas vesholom going to interpret our tefillos in the worst possible ways
