On the old site there was a discussion regarding giving reasons for the holocaust:

Recently someone showed me the following from the Gra on the Tikkunei Zohar:

 

פירוש הגר"א על תיקוני זוהר תיקון כא דף נז

 

"ד' יתברך שונא מקטרג על בניו, אף הקדושים"

 

So what does the Gra mean? Isn't giving reasons for the holocaust (or the churban habayis) essentially being a "מקטרג" on Klal Yisrael? What's the difference?

I'm not sure why you think that this silly idea that you heard from someone (it's obvious you didn't come up with this question on your own) is actually a question.

 

A מקטרג is a שונא (Rashi Chagiga 13b) who tries to get Jews punished. What connection does that have to any of the above?
