Is it wrong to drink water in class if your thirsty and you do it quietly and don't make a big deal?

How about anything else?

It really depends on the school, teacher and class. As a high-school and elementary teacher, I allow my students to drink water as long as it doesn't become a distraction. Each teacher is different, though, and in some classes it is considered a lack of derech eretz to drink in class. I would say ask your teacher if she minds.

What do you mean by "anything else?"

Out of respect for the teacher, I would suggest trying to avoid making it a habit. Try to take a drink between classes if you can. If you really have a cough, just try to drink inconspicuously.

Hatzlocha!
