I'm not the Rav, but I do know the Gra said his wife and daughters should learn mussar, and I beleive the Rav has reccomended it before.

I learned both of those sefarim in Seminary. Some inside the text and some not. I thought it was great but you would have to get enough commentary for it to be properly explained.
