I am beginning to think about seminary and I am looking into Darchei Binah. Is this the right fit? I am just what is called a frum Jewish girl (just imbetween), I did go to a beis yaakov school (Adass Yisroel) for primary, but its more chassidish than BY. So I moved to a Lebavitch school (which has non- religious kids) and surprisingly it is more torah learned than the chassidish school. The reason I moved was because I do want a career after school and Addass didnt offer a proper metric. I do watch movies and listen to non- Jewish music, but I dont have a TV. I recently won my National Chidon HaTanach in Australia so I do already have wide peshat torah knowledge. I need textual classes so that I can broaden and develop, because hashgafic classes are important but I find myself not being challenged to my potential. What would be ideal in a seminary would be classes that combine a lot of text in to their hashgafa classes. I am going to Israel in April and May for the International finals for the Chidon and there I hope to spend a day in the seminary. My views and comtemplations are multi- faceted so I need a sem that thinks about a lot of sectors with in yiddishkeit, rather than being focused on one aim. Is this seminary for me? Which seminaries should I look in to?

This was posted about Darchei Binah in another topic of this forum... maybe it'll be of use, or maybe you could ask the original poster more questions about it :)

Darchei Binah

MO-BY (in between. Depends who you ask. Technically not BY but has mostly ]BY hashkafa)

Considered middle point between BY and MO- springboard to find out how MO or BY other places are.

Intellectual classes- a lot to choose from

Some classes taught in Hebrew but all of those are optional

1.What were you or other people at the seminary looking for in a seminary when deciding?

2.How important is the interview/How intense,etc.- reading of rashi?

3.What is the style of teaching? Discussion, lecture, classroom setting, chavrusa??

4.What type of classes are there?

5.Can you choose your classes?

6.How much work is there? Tests?

7.Is the seminary about getting as much done as possible or learning as much as possible out of each thing? Are tests and work a side factor and they really just want the girls to learn or is work a big factor of importance to the seminary?

8.How hard is it? How hard is hard?

9.How open is the environment? What’s an example of a question that someone could ask that would be very “open”?

10.The girls who go there is their focus on learning more textually or learning more and growing more spiritually?

11.Are the girls who go self-made people so to speak or people who have grown up always being towards the right of the “frum” spectrum?

12.Are they all about the outside or do they focus on the inside as well?

13.How big of a mix of people is it? Is it hard to find your place?

14.Do they go on trips? Do they go to Europe?

15.Are their rules strict? What are some of their rules?

16.Do they have a uniform?

17.What is the status of the dorm?

18.What’s the deal as far as Shabbos and yom tov?

19.How many meals are given?

If your planning on going to seminary this year, you would already have made a decision on where to go... i have answered u anyway, bc you wrote in your 1st post in Jan, "i am begining to think about seminary..."

From what you sound like, it seems that DB would be a good fit.
Its not classified as BY, but its more BY than Michlalah. That being said, quite a number of BY girls would go there.
About the learning, it really depends abt what you put in, that you would gain out of it...[really, thats with everything in seminary...8D]
