Has anyone heard about a new program at Midreshet Devora which combines Seminary and Culinary School? Do you think that it is a good idea?

Students spend half a day in regular sem learning and half a day learning to become professional chefs.

ummmm...Why would they want to do that?

If they would want the girls to learn s/thing, shouldn't they offer courses in like hair, beauty, graphics etc.
What's the point in ALL the girls becoming Chefs?!?!?!

(Ok, maybe for house cooking, but please, these girls learn it from home, and if they don't they will learn over their married years, they will have plenty of time... :)

I am currently a student at Midreshet Devora as well as at the culinary school. The half day each is great, it's not so intense with either, it's given me a larger social aspect, a bigger aspect of my year abroad ( meet more people, see more of the country with different trips to different places and different focuses during these trips. (culinary trips focus on the culinary history, sem, the Jewish history). The sem isn't hiring the culinary teachers, it's not a vocational school- they are sharing students, the sem has bedrooms and the culinary school doesn't. Most girls I know don't learn cooking at home, or not well, and it's not just 'learning how to cook', it's French gourmet professional teaching with very qualified teachers and each student comes out of it with a certificate and the ability to work in real kitchens; restaurants, hotels, catering businesses...etc. They could just use it for their own families, but it's something's fall back on. Most girls I know are more interested in food and the liveliness of working with spices and the colours of vegetables and favors, than makeup or hair. The culinary school isn't mandatory in the sem, it's an option. An amazing option, they are close together (15 min walk) and to have food to bring home everyday- is a much better setup than other seems offer, I love, I'm greatly enjoying my year, and I plan on coming back next year as well.
