Is there anything wrong -from a halachic or hashkafic perspective- with finding out a baby's gender from the sonogram?

You'll have to ask them. My field is Judaism, not psychology.

What i meant is that there are people who treat it as a Jewish thing, how am I supposed to know if people are being "frum" or stupid?

I know - I was being facetious.

How to know? Ask a rabbi! (Like those people should have.)

You'd be surprised, though, that people do try hard to find "sources"to prohibit this. It's almost as if people want to not know and are looking for something to hold them back from finding out.

Is there anything wrong with telling other people what you're having if you know? I know people that found out, but made immense efforts to keep it a secret from everyone else. Does that have to do with anything more than personal preference? Ayin hara? Something?

Personal preference.

I think it has something to do with a chazal that says the reason why G-d doesn't reveal the gender of a baby is to prevent rashayim to abort the baby if its the gender they don't want. This somehow got twisted to mean "no finding out what baby's gender is."
